Testing My Prototype
I decided to test my prototype on different types of user before committing myself to building a final version.
This is the summary of the tests:
Scenarios:
Scenario A.
You already have an account.
You would like to find and join a new group.
You want to find groups with people in that like the television program ‘Torchwood’
Scenario B.
You already have an account.
You would like to see which groups you are a member of.
Scenario C.
You already have an account.
You have turned up in town to meet your Torchwood group at the Huntmans pub. You can’t find it. Find directions.
Test Users:
User A.
User A is competent mobile phone user and has an interest in mobile applications.
User B.
User B can use a mobile phone but does not often venture away from calls and texts.
User C.
User C prefers not to use a mobile phone unless necessary.
Results:
Scenario A:
The two mobile users seemed to understand the layout and what they were expected to do. User C struggled to understand the mobile interface. This could be because they had not been very exposed to mobile interfaces.
Scenario B:
User A and B had no problems in finding their group list. User C took a different approach and did not realise that groups were stored and did not need to be searched for again.
Scenario C:
User A went tried the ‘whats on now’ menu option and was able to get to the meeting details instantly. User B went through the group menu and to the group page to find the details of the event again. This was also fairly quick but not as fast as the other method. The user also commented that it would be good if the different sections had headings to remind you of where you were. User C also took this method to get to the directions fairly fast but didn’t like the map output and would have rather had somebody to talk to.
Conclusion:
The concept is too complicated for somebody who doesn’t like new technology. This is to do with the concept rather than the interface.
I need to include headings for each page to make it clear where the user is as menu sections sometimes interlink.
I need to implement a way for the user to realise the ‘whats on now’ function can be used to find both meetings they knew were on and to find new ones.

Notes and sketches
Today I made sketches of the information flow for my interface. When I had this information, I was able to sketch what each page of the application needed to look like. I have decided that I will just mock up this prototype in flash straight away as opposed to using paper prototyping. I have chosen to do this because I feel that while a paper prototype might be necessary for a website with lots of options to choose from, it isn't so necessary for just a menu system.
